Release Notes:
Communicating a moroseness and morbid introspection equalled in recent times
only by Noah and the Whales Charlie Fink, this Co Galway singer-songwriter
follows last years Long Distance Swimmer with a release that is even more
low-key and haunting than that wonderful album. A prolonged sigh for summers
gone, Season of the Sparks shimmers and hums with regret, Crowleys poetry
combining, on songs such as The Beekeepers Wife, The Wishing Seat and a cover
of Ivor Cutlers Squeeze Bees, with icy strings, anchoring organ and mournful
washes of harmonium to create something spare, ghostly and beautiful. On The
Three Sisters, Crowleys fingerpicked guitar and doleful vocal nestle in a bed
of violin and viola; the story of magnetic but possibly malevolent siblings
is like a Paula Rego painting set to music. A great album.
